Alana A Faupel
1/5/1953 — 10/1/2026
A Life Remembered
Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Alana Faupel announce her final great adventure October 1, 2026. In true Alana fashion she left us to go on life’s greatest solo adventure with Elvis as her soundtrack.
Alana was born in Canmore, AB. January 5, 1953, to Aino and Ted Woodley. The only sister to Arnold Kubista, she took advantage of the 16-year age gap between them, forming an unbreakable sibling bond. The light of her father’s eye she was a true Coal miner’s daughter and proud to be born and raised in Canmore.
She met the love of her life Gerhartd Faupel and they married on January 29, 1971, in the Canmore United Church, just like several generations before her. Just as Gerhardt predicted, life together was never boring.
They had two children together; Ted Faupel and Christopher Faupel. Alana was a very busy mom, cooking, cleaning, and sewing clothes for two active boys. Alana worked at the Canmore Legion as a server and later added working at the Canmore Post Office. At the Canmore Post Office, she worked her way up to Senior assistant postmaster.
Summers were spent travelling and camping in the tent trailer travelling up and down the West Coast. South Beach Campground in Penticton BC. was her preferred holiday spot after upgrading to a Motor home. They were part of the CB club, and very active in the Canmore Square Dancing community.
When she upgraded to grandma, she was typically found anywhere Sara and Melissa were. She never passed up an opportunity to babysit or take them on adventures. She was their biggest cheerleader at all their sporting events and strived for front row seating at every school concert. She was never one to sit still, preferring to look forward to her next adventure.
2005 found her on yet another adventure when Alana and Gerhartd moved to Cochrane AB. Alana commuted to Canmore until she became Postmaster in the Cochrane Post Office. After Gerhartd’s passing in 2008 Alana found herself enjoying travelling in her motor home looking for new adventures.
In 2012 she was excited for her grandson Spencer Faupel looking forward to another grandchild to add to her travelling adventurers. In 2013 she found a new travel buddy in David Clubb where they would take the motorhome to Ontario or fly to the Dominican. She loved the beach and being in the water. In 2024 She welcomed her first great grandchild Emerald.
